GVC (GVC2025)

Mabel Scott, Five Bills, Gayle Brown, Sarah McLawler, Georgie Auld & Sarah McLawler, Vickie Nelson, James Allen, Freddie Mitchell, Erskine Hawkins & Ace Harris, Sonny Parker, Myrtle Jackson, Zilla Mays & The Blues Caravan.

Another big bash of R&B belters. This time Brunswick is in the spotlight with the near-doo-wop stylings of The Five Bills, organist Sarah McLawler's funky take on the jazzy side of life, Vickie Nelson's hefty vocals, the really obscure James Allen and the big fat sound of Freddie Mitchell's tenor sax.

Singer Ace Harris joins the band of Erskine Hawkins for some sophisticated stuff while Sonny Parker comes on with the real blues. His two sides feature some hot BB King tinged guitar but it's Zilla Mays who supplies the toughest item here with her brawling ‘Night Shift Blues' - a hot rockin' number featuring the brilliant sax of John Peek.

R&B fanatics will love this five star 36 track album.
