BILL MONROE AND HIS BLUEGRASS BOYS

1950-1958 (4CD BOX)

image

JSP (JSP77119)

The first Bill Monroe set in this series (JSP7712) contained all the classic releases from Bill's beginnings, starting with his recordings with brother Charlie before moving on to the first incarnations of bluegrass when he started the famous Bluegrass Boys.

This set contains music from yet another classic era of American music when Bill Monroe and The Bluegrass Boys were in full flight roaming around the South wowing audiences and delivering hit after hit with titles like Uncle Pen, Raw Hide, Footprints In The Snow, Molly And Tenbrooks and Scotland along with the remake Blue Moon of Kentucky which had recently kick started the career of Elvis.

The Bluegrass Boys were a shifting string of great musicians who came and went with alarming regularity but every one of them helped Bill to perfect his music. Don Stover, Owen Bradley, Kenny Baker, Jimmy Martin, Rudy Lyle, Grady Martin, Carter Stanley, Sonny Osborne and Vassar Clements are just a handful of the greats who you'll hear on this 97 track collection which selects some of the absolute jewels of bluegrass like White House Blues, Wheel Hoss, In The Pines, Pike County Breakdown, Gotta Travel On and Poison Love.  Then there are some gorgeous gospel masterpieces like Walking In Jerusalem, He Will Set Your Fields On Fire and my absolute favourite of all, the scintillating Get Down On Your Knees And Pray.

Get this box of truly tremendous music by the Father of Bluegrass. I promise - you'll never be the same again.
