Remember those wonderful New Orleans soul and R&B vinyl albums that Charly put out in the 80s? The ones
that were full of tracks that (mostly) came from the Sea Saint studios run by Allen Toussaint and featured some of the cream of the crop like Benny Spellman, Ernie K-Doe, Diamond Joe and Aaron Neville alongside lesser known but still vibrant performers? Well, at last, two of ‘em; Sehorn's Soul Farm Volumes 1 & 2 have arrived on CD together with a further 18 cuts of similar material from the likes of Lee Dorsey, The Meters and Betty Harris.
You get stuff like Aaron Neville's mighty Hercules, Benny Spellman's slice of New Orleans funk Sinner Girl, Joe Haywoods Let's Make It with its hypnotic horn licks and Diamond Joe's brilliant Gossip Gossip which is considered by many connoisseurs to be the best of all Sansu productions. Add to that lot hot recordings like Ernie K-Doe's up-town funky workout Hotcha Mama, Betty Harris' driving stinger Mean Man, Willie Harper's show stopper I Don't Need You Anymore and Joe Haywood's big soul blast Sadie Mae and you've got a soul CD to drool over.
