SOUTHERN FILIBUSTER - A TRIBUTE TO TUT TAYLOR

image

E1 Music (E1ECD2082)

Tut Taylor was born eighty six years ago and spent a life-time in country music recording and playing with greats like Norman Blake, Mark O'Connor, Clarence White, John Hartford, Vassar Clements and Sam Bush. He was a long-time member of the Dixie Gentlemen and played with Roy Acuff at the last radio concert at the Ryman Auditorium.

Over the years he has won many awards and made plenty of great country music records and now fourteen of his protégées and disciples have got together to record a tribute album of his songs while he's still here to appreciate just how much he's respected and loved.  Good for them. And good for us because this is a stonkin' great album full to the brim of great Tut Taylor tunes played in the old-fashioned way with absolutely oodles of Dobro, fiddles, guitars, mandolins and string basses.

The cream of the dobro players are here including marvellous musicians like Cindy Cashdollar, Jerry Douglas, Rob Ickes, Curtis Burch, Mike Auldridge, Megan Lovell, Billy Cardine and Ferrell Stowe and they are augmented by fiddlers Jason Carter and Fred Carpenter, mandolin players Tim O'Brien, Ronnie McCoury, Mike Compton and Bryan Sutton and guitarists David Grier, Russ Barenberg and Chris Jones.

Perfection!
