THE RETURN OF THE STUFF THAT DREAMS ARE MADE OF (2CD)

Yazoo (YAZCD2203)

One of the releases of 2012? Well, it does have a lot going for it.

For starters, it is a new release on Yazoo, a label that always delivers what we like and the way we like it. Secondly, it is a second edition of The Stuff That Dreams Are Made Of, one of the most significant, enjoyable and impressive releases over recent years. So it has a great pedigree.

Thirdly, take a gander at what it includes - a 54 page booklet (much bigger than the booklet that came with the first volume) detailing the story of collecting rare records, plus 46 blues and country songs from the 1920s that (being Yazoo) have the highest standards of re-production and rarities a-plenty. Artists featured include Hambone Willie Newbern, Bukka White, Uncle Dave Macon, Henry Thomas, Fiddling Sam Long, Charley (Charlie?) Patton, Blind Blake, Fruit Jar Guzzlers, Mississippi Possum Hunters, Lulu Jackson, Charlie Poole, Luke Highnight, Furry Lewis, and plenty more.

An absolute corker and a must-have purchase for anyone with the faintest interest in collecting pre-war delta blues and old-timey country.
